Knocked Up (imdb)

Last week, I had the chance to attend an advanced screening of Knocked Up, Judd Apatow’s (40 Year Old Virgin) latest comedy. The film deals with a one-night stand gone wrong, and the laughs come from two polar opposite personalities coming together when an unexpected pregnancy unites them.
The film feels a lot like 40 Year Old Virgin (which is a good thing), and it generates laughs pretty consistently. The story is simple: Ben (Seth Rogen) and Allison (Katherine Heigl) hook up at a bar, and after one night, Allison gets pregnant. Although Ben, a burnout, and Allison, a working professional for E! news, have little in common, the two try to make things work out for the coming baby. Oh yeah, they kind of fall for each other along the way.
Like 40 Year Old Virgin and The Wedding Crashers, Knocked Up is a crude yet sweet comedy. It balances the dirty jokes and the quip humor with romance and relationships gracefully. Expect a lot of drug related gags, gender jokes, and funny insults thrown throughout; a scene involving ingesting shrooms and seeing Cirque du Soleil was priceless. The movie is hilarious with excellent writing similar to the aforementioned movies. There are definitely quotable lines and repeated viewings would seem enjoyable; I know I’m looking forward to seeing this one again.
The cast of Knocked Up works very well. Katherine Heigl is both funny and cute, winning the heart of this viewer. Seth Rogen is hilarious just as he was in 40 Year Old Virgin. All members of the cast deliver lines naturally, and the jokes just flow seemlessly through the dialogue of the film. Familiar faces are everywhere, and there are many cameo appearances. Since Heigl’s character, Allison, works for E! news, she speaks with some celebrities such as Ryan Seacrest and James Franco. Additionally, we get to see a few actors from The Office as well as Harold Ramis and the now regular Paul Rudd.
All in all, Knocked Up is a hilarious movie. If you’re a fan of Wedding Crashers and 40 Year Old Virgin, then this flick is right up your alley and well worth a peek. Knocked Up will be released this summer on June 1st, 2007. Check it out!
