Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (imdb)

It’s been a while, but the move to the new servers went over successfully and last friday I had the chance to finally hit the cineplex. While I haven’t been a big fan of the ‘Pirates’ series, seeing the last flick and completing my Pirates trilogy seemed like a necessary doing.
First, let me start out with the good. Pirates 3 succeeds on numerous levels. Visually, you don’t see special effects better than this. CGI sure has come a long way, and the set design and costuming exudes piratey goodness. The movie really is easy on the eyes. Each cast member plays to their usual character and Chow Yun Fat is a welcome addition to the screen as Sao Feng. Furthermore, the movie has its funny moments with the pirate-isms and Johnny Depp. Jack Sparrow really is a great character, and it’s always fun to revisit him in doses.
And that’s where this movie really falters. Pirates 3 has a rather large dose size, clocking in at almost three hours. I’ve always felt the Pirate movies have been a bit too long; after 90 minutes, the pacing of the movie really drags, and I can totally see a better experience from cutting an hour out of the movie. At World’s End really is just a sequence of events leading to an inexorable large scale sea battle. While I felt the movie had more direction than Dead Man’s Chest as this entry resolved the trilogy, its length and plot complexity hurt it in similar ways to Dead Man’s Chest. Dead Man’s Chest, to me, was truly a pointless sequence of action scenes tied together - Pirates 3 manages to avoid this problem but still goes on far too long.
Like Matrix Revolutions, this film really is a capper to the trilogy and should be seen with those ends in mind. It’s not as bad of an ending as Matrix, but it does have its moments of cheese and overly complex plot sequences. There’s so much packed into At World’s End, and the runtime shows it. Go ahead and finish the trilogy; it’s finally time to say goodbye to Elizabeth, Jack, and friends. Wait, aren’t there rumors (Filmstalker) that Jack will return…

I liked this one better than two but I agree, it was a little too long.
I guess we’ll have to wait and see if a 4th (and probably 5th and 6th) are really on the way.

It was pretty fun Marina but I was struggling to stay in my seat!
I hope that if the 4th ever sees the light of day, it will feature a lot of Jack and a more manageable plot!
