Stardust

Ah, the delights of screening passes. Last week, I had the fortunate chance to catch a sneak peek of Stardust, a summer fantasy flick separate from the realms of Narnia, Hogwarts wizardry, and Middle Earth. Stardust presents an entertaining diversion from these grand epics and creates a nice little world of its own.

The film involves the necessary hero’s journey along with a female love interest who, without a doubt, is to be rescued at one point. But while Stardust plays as a standard fantasy fairy tale-like flick, the movie does seem to depart from normality and create its own unique, if not forgettable, identity. In Stardust, a simple stone wall determines the border between reality and the fantastical, and the desirable female lead (Claire Danes) is actually a fallen star.

Perhaps what gives Stardust its character is its eclectically chosen cast. I don’t really know why Robert DeNiro is in this flick, and when was the last time we saw Michelle Pfeiffer? Peter O’Toole holds a small part, and Ricky Gervais of the UK version of The Office presents some good laughs. Claire Danes is quite cute, and Charlie Cox holds his own with his British accent.

Stardust is a nice little flick that appears, to me, to have a pretty big heart. It’s fun to watch, and while it is a fantasy tale and thus drawing from things we’ve all seen before, the movie isn’t pretentious and entertains all ages. Stardust is a great adventure; the movie wears its heart on its sleeve and proceeds without any delusions grandeur, making it a very pleasant experience.

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts…

I’m certainly curious to see how this film performs at the Box Office, and with critics, and moviegoers.

It just doesn’t seem to have the buzz from many people amidst the rest of summer’s buzz flicks.

Yeah RC. This flick seems a bit under the radar, but it turned out to be a decent viewing in my opinion. It’s unpretentious and light.

Not fair-you get to see “Stardust”….I get screening passes to “Arctic Tale.” Hrmph.

We’re going this weekend to see “Stardust”–I’m looking forward to it. It looks like a pretty flick.
