The Simpsons Movie (imdb)

Last week I finally had the pleasure to catch The Simpsons Movie at a local cineplex. As an extension of the TV show, the movie is basically an extended episode with a framework plot with little detailed side jokes. Having worked for more than 10 years on television, why change?
Translating to the big screen, the Simpsons works well with its timeless formula. Small visual changes have behooved it well - widescreen, sweeping camera digital effects - and the movie retains its humble comic roots as well.
The silly jokes and popular references litter The Simpsons Movie and the movie is definitely funny. However, the movie is very light and I found the humor of the Simpsons to be less biting than what I’m used to. The movie also was very sweet and emphasized family values more than I would’ve expected it to…
In the end, criticisms of a movie being a bit on the sweet side are pretty small complaints. The movie does have humorous lines and great animation. I died with the Tom Hanks bit, and Ned Flanders always brings a smile to my face!
3.5 domed Springfield’s out of 5
