The Forbidden Kingdom(imdb)
It seems a teaser for the oft hyped J&J project has finally been posted. For those that haven’t heard, the J&J project refers to the on-screen union of Jackie Chan and Jet Li that many of us in the United States have been waiting for. But, don’t get your hopes up yet. The teaser might be misleading. This isn’t a proper wu xia story. A little digging has found that this movie’s plot is likely to be about a New York teenager who finds a staff in a pawnshop and is transported back to ancient China. Err… what? Crouching Tiger meets Jumanji? In fact, the director, Rob Minkoff’s, accolades include such notables as the Lion King and Stuart Little. Is this even a kung fu movie?
Even Jackie Chan seems a little perplexed by this one having been quoted as saying, “The ‘Forbidden Kingdom’ is a movie made for Americans… If I say it’s a good movie now, then many people will be filled with overly high expectations and be disappointed when they see the movie.”
