The second trailer for Francis Ford Coppola’s new film Youth Without Youth is online. The movie is based on a 1976 novella of the same name by Mircea Eliade. Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Awesome! The Coppola is back!” I, too, was excited for his return to the director’s chair, after a 10-year hiatus. (Honestly, who can blame him? His last movie was The Rainmaker, which I’m pretty sure was a hilarious coming-of-age story about a lawyer and his midget.) But, alas, this trailer makes absolutely no sense to me. I see some swastikas and lightning and a weird X-Ray with lots and lots of teeth, and it’s all very confusing to me. Not to mention the fact that Tim Roth has the lead role. I mean, he was great in Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, but you could get more sexy and romance from a Mr. Potato Head doll. It would have a better haircut, too. Listen, Francis Ford Coppola, I understand that you really liked this book and you wanted to adapt it into a film because you can, but that doesn’t mean you should. You don’t see me trying to adapt “Llama, Llama, Red Pajama” into a movie, do you?

By the way, if I did, it would be awesome. Ironically, it would probably also feature Tim Roth. As a llama.
