Sorry for the quietude. I’ve been on a vacation of sorts, but I’ve still been hitting the local cineplex so I’ll try to upload my opinions a little more regularly. Here’s a quick update on some movies you should’ve already seen or avoided. Cheers.

The Incredible Hulk (imdb)

The new Hulk remake is an entertaining though uninspired superhero flick. Ed Norton and Liv Tyler do some good work as does Tim Roth (though he is absurdly short). The movie is fun, mindless, CGI-ridden action, and I would personally catch it on DVD or at a second run theater. It works well enough for the brain-dead summer season, especially when you witness the eye candy of Hulk versus Blonsky, but in the end, The Incredible Hulk is incredibly average. Fanboys will eat it up, but for the casual viewer, see Iron Man again or just wait for The Dark Knight.

The Happening (imdb)

While The Happening can boast about being M. Night Shyamalan’s first R-rated feature, that’s about all that can really be said. The movie itself has a strikingly bizarre tone reversing between creepy horror and absurd comedy. Additionally, the storyline is completely preposterous and unbelievable (i.e. running from the wind?), and worst of all the movie becomes boring and pointless. From the outset, the movie is creepy and has some truly scary imagery. After 20 minutes however, the movie recycles material and dawdles along aimlessly. The movie goes nowhere, and eventually and thankfully it ends. Save your money on this one and hit the video store for something guaranteed to entertain.
